MEMORIAL REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY-MAY 25th WORSHIP SERVICE
The last Sunday of May, is traditionally the Sunday known as Memorial Sunday. To date, Jordan Creek Church has not held a funeral for a Church Member, however, a number of members have had loved ones or friends who died. Some persons have lost friends and family far away from West Des Moines and will not be able to physically be present to honor them on Memorial Day Weekend, but here at Jordan Creek Church, we want to provide an opportunity for you to honor and pay tribute to them.

On Sunday, May 25th, during the Morning Worship Service at 10:30 AM, we will remember and honor loved ones who have passed away. Individuals or family members are invited to be present on Sunday, May 25th and to come forward to light a candle in memory of a loved one as their name is read. Special prayers will be offered on that Sunday and a message by the Pastor. This opportunity is being provided as a help to those who would like to honor someone, but because of time or distance may not be able to be physically present to offer a tribute, especially when the person being honored may have lived so far away.

Forms are available at the Information Table for you to fill out, or you can simply e-mail the name of the person/s to be remembered to Beth at jcumc@jordancreekchurch.org by Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

 

 

 

Honoring Graduates -
On Sunday, May 18th, Jordan Creek Church will be honoring Graduates from High School, College, or other Graduate Programs. Please let us know of persons who may be graduating so we can celebrate this "high point" in their life! A table will be set up in the back of the sanctuary for them to share their lives through pictures and honors. Anyone is invited to leave a card or gift in special baskets placed on the tables.

Beautify the Church! -
Want to help spruce up the grounds at Jordan Creek Church? We are on a mission to get some plants in the ground to add color and spring beauty to our church environment!

Over the past week, we called upon Andrea Gilbert to help us by guiding us toward plants that are known for their survivability in our Iowa climate. She was kind enough to put together a list of recommended plants for around the church. Some examples are: a variety of perenials (salvia, daylilies, phlox, Russian sage, yarrows), ground covers (geranium, sedum), and "easy care" plants (buddlea, caryopteris).

As a Spring/Summer Project, we would like to offer you the opportunity to purchase these items in honor of someone, in celebration of someone or a special event (birthday, anniversary, adoption day) or in memory of someone. There will be a display set up for the next few weeks that will include photos and the pricing of each plant. Andrea Gilbert will be helping us to coordinate a date to complete the actual planting where people will be invited to participate.

 

 

 

Take Me Out to the Ball Game!!!

Jordan Creek Church is going to watch the Iowa Cubs take on Memphis on Friday May 30, at 7:05 PM. We will meet before the game to tailgate/picnic at Principal Park. Fox Sports and Mediacom are sponsoring a fireworks display after the game. Group tickets will allow everyone to sit together in the Grandstand section and we will be able to choose which baseline we prefer. The group ticket rate for May is $5.00 for children and adults. By purchasing group tickets in advance, we will avoid the ticket lines, have guaranteed seating and get adult tickets for half price!!!

Check you calendars and mark the date! Invite friends, co-workers and family! We will need to know in advance how many tickets to purchase and we need to purchase the tickets soon! The advance purchase of the tickets will be made by the church. Ruth Harbor Walk for Life -

We will be walking this Saturday! Come and bring a friend along! This is a kid-friendly walk...so bring the kids for some old-fashioned exercise!

A FAITH STIMULUS INCENTIVE PACKAGE
Several weeks ago it was announced that Uncle Sam will be providing tax rebates to more than 117 million households in our country. The hope is that putting extra cash in people's pockets will help stimulate the economy. Of course there are lots of ways the rebate could be "invested" to give the economy a boost. As you consider all the ways you could use the funds, we invite you to also think about and pray about the possibility of gifting a portion of the rebate to the church, something over and above your regular giving. Scott Hibben, a member of the Iowa United Methodist Conference staff and a good friend to Jordan Creek wrote an article recently where he asks, "as Christians, what GOOD are we going to do with this unexpected windfall?...Think of the modeling about faith and finances that could take place within your family and your church if YOU stepped forward and said, 'This is an opportunity God is giving us to make a difference.'" Over the next week or so we will be talking more about the opportunities we have as a church to step out with a FAITH STIMULUS package of our own, so that we might make a difference in our community and in our world.

Senior Adult Bible Study

For all you retired (and semi-retired folks)! Are you interested in getting together with others in the Jordan Creek congregation who are in a similar stage of life? How about considering a day-time Bible study? We have a small group that will be meeting on Tuesday afternoons for study and fellowship, beginning Tuesday, May 6th.

 

The group is currently doing a study called Faith Lessons: That the World May Know. It is video based study, which means you don't have to read anything ahead of time. The entire series covers both the
Old and New Testaments and the Early Church. Each lesson is stand alone, which means you can join the group at any time and you don't miss anything if you need to miss a week. The lessons are filmed on location in the Holy Land and you not only learn about the characters of the Bible, you also get to see the places where the events of the Bible took place. The group leaders are Jerry and Ruth Wolcott. Jerry is a retired United Methodist Pastor and both Jerry and Ruth have wonderful experience in leading groups.

TRINITY MEAL -
We are looking for food donations and for volunteers to serve at our next Trinity Meal on Monday, June 9th from 4:00-6:00 PM. JCC Choir:

The Easter Choir was incredible! With that being said, the JCC Choir shall continue to perform! The Choir will perform on the 4th Sunday of every month during our 10:30 AM Worship Service. LIFE GROUPS at Jordan Creek- Jordan Creek Life Groups Are Forming Now! Life Group FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) 1) Do I have to know a lot about the Bible to be a part of a Small Group? The primary focus of our Life Groups is to care for one another based on Biblical principles. As your group grows, you will discover those Biblical principles. 2) Am I expected to pray out loud at my Life Group? No. Life Groups are intended to provide a safe environment where individual comfort levels are respected. People are not expected to share beyond their comfort levels. 3) Can I come if I'm not a Christ follower yet? Yes! Life Groups are where you can see authentic Christianity in action. It is a safe place for people who are seeking God or who are making their journey back to God. 4) How do I get involved in a Life Group at Jordan Creek? There are a couple of ways to connect with a group. You can complete the contact information on the back of one of the Life Group Cards available at the Information Table and place it in the offering plate, or you can get in touch with Joyce Webb by phone at 480-8457 or by e-mail at joyce@jordancreekchurch.org 5) Where do these groups meet? Groups typically meet in homes or at the church. 6) When do these groups meet? Each group decides the meeting day and time and how often they will meet.
