Prayer Shawl Ministry

Jordan Creek Prayer Shawl Ministry
NOTE: THE NOISY CHANGE OFFERING EACH MONTH SUPPORTS THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY. TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS SPECIAL OFFERING - CLICK HERE.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry was started the first week of February by Sara Plunkett and her daughter, Shannon Hodges. It is a wonderful ministry and we truly give God all the glory because we are just His hands doing what He has laid on our hearts to accomplish. It is with our passion and our love for God that we bring this ministry to Jordan Creek Church.

When you hear about someone who is ill, going through a crisis, cancer, chemo, radiation, hurting financially, emotionally, spiritually or have lost a loved one, please let me know or someone on the shawl team and we will put them on the waiting list to receive a beautiful shawl, a tangible gift from God to them.

If anyone is interested in joining the Prayer Shawl Ministry please call me, Sara Plunkett, at
515-897-1320  or emaqil her at
gordon-sara@sbcglobal.net and I will advise you.
Shalom, Sara Plunkett

Our mission statement is as follows:

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry is as much about a spiritual gift as a physical gift of a shawl. The spirit of God is in the Shawl as we pray while knitting and sharing with others.
Knitting into the mystery is what we are doing. As we knit God already knows who the next recipient will be. It is as much about getting together for fellowship and spending time with God as it is in knitting the shawl. To God be the glory.

We meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at 7:00. We start with a prayer, have a short devotional, knit or crochet during our fellowship time and then end with a prayer. If we have a shawl completed and someone has a friend or relative who is lying heavy on their heart we would even bless the shawl at this time. If the recipient was there we would drape the shawl around her. If it needs to be delivered, we would wrap it in tissue like a bouquet of roses, tie it with the yarn that it was knit with and deliver it to that person or send it in the mail. You know that God tells us "when two or three are gathered He is right there in the middle." We feel that it is alright for the shawl team to bless the shawl at that time. We also invite Pastor Phil to bless each of the Prayer Shawls or to bless them on Sunday Mornings during Worship.

There are several ways you can be involved in this ministry. You can knit or crochet a shawl, share the name of a friend or loved one who is in need of God's blessings, or you can support the Prayer Shawl Ministry financially by your donations.
